I believe you. As a person that has been the victim of this type of police report and disproportion reaction and punishment I believe you. Nobody that has seen what we have seen will ever believe the police again. Time: 1999-08-17 20:15:06 Comments: I too have been a victim of the police. This does not really involve brutality per say however I view any clear obstruction of justice by the police to be brutal to the general public and the interests of justice. I was in an accident one night in which someone died. The guy hit me by cutting me off on the highway, lost control of his vehicle and careened off the road. Subsequently, he was thrown from the vehicle and killed. he was not wearing a seatbelt -a crime in Massachusetts. I did not see him crash as my lights were askew from the collision. I thought he took off. I drove home and immediately called the police to report the incident. they arrived at my house and allowed me to continue explaining my story as i thought i was the victim of a hit and run. after enticing me to incriminate myself for about 45 min. they informed me that I was under arrest for MV homicide, DUI and other charges. I was not drunk. They arrested me and I spent most of the night in the barracks where they gave me field sobriety tests-all of which I passed. The injustice occurred when in bail hearing the police lied on their reports, coached the witnesses to lie on their own reports. The DA lied to the judge to attempt to have me held without bail. The police, who know I am innocent and have no evidence to support a claim of DUI are continuing to lie to the courts. The state is going to waste taxpayer money to indict me on these charges and my entire life has been ruined. My name is defamed by the inaccurate reports given by police to the media. My car, which I purchased 1 1/2 weeks prior to the incident sits idle in my driveway. I cant get my lic. back before the trial because my lawyer said the police would harass me and any incident can get my bail revoked and i will go to jail until the trial. I have to pay for a car I cannot use. I work 50 miles from home. My girlfriend of 4 years has walked out on me recently undoubtedly due to the stress of being associated with a "hit and run drunk driving killer." To top this all off -facing a 10+ year jail sentence- I have had to hire the best lawyer available because I am guilty of nothing at all and I do not wish to rot in jail. My legal defense is costing $100,000 !!!!! for which my parents have had to re-mortgage our home. I will be paying this mortgage for the next 30 years! I am now 25 years old. I will be 26 before the trial is over in march. I am a software salesman for a leading developer, I was promoted a few weeks before this incident. now I am forced to live in undesirable conditions with friends so I can get a ride to work every day. My entire life is essentially ruined and I have done nothing wrong. I will probably never dig myself out of this. If you know of anyone else -I’m sure there are millions- who have been raped by the "justice" system like this please tell me about them. point me to pages where our stories can be heard so we can put an end to this travesty of justice. The rights against self incrimination and due process were important enough that our forefathers wantonly laid down their lives to create the constitution. Now we have these rights erased by the stroke of some liberal politician's pen. The constitution, my friends, is penned in the blood of the founding fathers and must not be made a mockery of at ANY cost. "For the public good" is not in the public's best interests. -Anonymous P.S. I welcome any responses to this essay: be they supportive or contradictory. use my email above. |
